Hackathon & Data Visualization Contest

Presented by EMERGE, Dream in Green, Broward County Libraries, and SciStarter

A Day that Turned Data into Impact

Hosted by the University of Florida Department of Geography’s GeoDI Lab with support from NASA, participants transformed real GLOBE Observer data into maps, infographics, and dashboards that tell powerful stories about our environment and public health. From mosquito habitats to land cover change, every project showed how data can drive meaningful community action.

You can join in too! Download the NASA GLOBE Observer app to map the world around you and help track — and even mitigate — mosquito habitats. Explore our free EMERGE curriculum to analyze data and develop your own community-based solutions. No coding experience required!

Want to bring a similar event to your area? Visit our event resources page to access the GLOBE Observer app, curriculum, and event planning resources. We’re continuing to build new materials based on what we learned at the Hackathon—sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop!

Thank you for helping turn science into action.
